Speaking of Southern truths: The saddest part of this was finishing the first paragraph where I had named NASCAR specifically and then, upon re-reading, remembering that NASCAR is only on the weekends. :(

I could have put subparts on the last title, and I was tempted to because they were good ones, but then I realized that all the other stories have healthy dollops of angst and Cat!Jim does not. Cat!Jim is, like, anti angst. There will be a lot of purring, is what I'm saying.

although it turns out that Pike is not a cat person and that makes Jim sad but on the other paw Uhura thinks he is a handsome boy and to be perfectly honest that makes everything better

I told myself that I could fanwank it that NASCAR expands at some point in the next two centuries, but "race weekend" is a big deal and the main reason I know about NASCAR anyway is because my dad used to fall asleep to it on Sundays. So I couldn't do it. I couldn't put NASCAR on Tuesday. :(

Exactly! I was thinking it's just because he likes dogs (an extension of him liking horses) but I can definitely see Jim trying to mark him and Pike getting huffy. And then he starts harassing Jim and poking him in the belly and such. Because, you see, Jim is trying his hardest to pretend he is an Ordinary Cat and has no human-level intelligence whatsoever because that way, he can't get in trouble for not following protocol.
