This is all just beautiful. The first one about the rape was very true, I found it so odd that Owen got over that experience so quickly. The metaphor of the "innocence organ" was fascinating, but very Owen. A physician's view of sentimentality. Then the last one made me a little bit teary, because that moment in the show was wonderful and this captured it perfectly. Thank you for a lovely piece!

Thank you so much. I managed to avoid all the wank about the pheromone spray, but the main points were pretty obvious, I think. It was fun to cut to the uneasy heart of the debate-- yes, there are degrees of rape, but once people start arguing the details they are using intellectual detachment to explain their instinctive, emotional reaction-- and that's pretty much the dictionary definition of rationalization. That gave me the title and I was able to go on from there.

Isn't that moment just gorgeous? I rewatched the scene and decided that I'd have to go polar opposite of the original story, where Owen doesn't really believe he's been forgiven. I'm not usually a fan of Christ parallels but Burn Gorman really sells the redemption of that moment. It's very touching.

Looking closely at his face, I realise that he'll actually be very handsome, if he doesn't have that cynical look that he's ALWAYS wearing.
