Crowdsourcing time! I'm starting to poke at a multifandom vid, and I need some suggestions beyond my own usual scope of source material. Specifically, I'm looking at the women in refrigerators trope. More specifically, I'm looking for sci-fi/fantasy/comic book movies and TV shows that feature main characters' girlfriends/wives who are 1) killed off ( Read more... )

Well, in SPN there's Sam's girlfriend, Jesse. In fact there are lots of "women in refrigerators" in SPN. From their mother Mary to Ellen and Jo, to even some of the "bad girls" like Ruby? And nearly all of them show up in dreams or visions later.

Of course, there's BtVS. Buffy herself died several times, there was Jenny Calendar and Kendra and Tara and Buffy's mom Joyce. And that's just in the first few seasons.

ST:TNG, there was Tasha Yar, who came back in an alternate timeline.

That's all I can come up with on the spur of the moment.

ETA: Just realized that all of them weren't girlfriends.

Yeah, I'm definitely doing Jess from SPN and Jenny from Buffy. I don't know TNG very well -- I'll check out Tasha Yar, thanks!

Mal in Inception.
G suggested Braveheart. I haven't seen it, so I do not know. He argued Braveheart is fantasy, which I cannot comment on. ;)

Wassername from Dr Horrible was clearly fridged, but doesn't show up in dreams.

I'm coming up shockingly blank. I clearly don't watch enough tv. Sorry. :-/

Did Daniel's wife in Stargate SG1 ever show up?

Ben Sisko's wife in the pilot of DS9.

I may expand my list to include those who don't later appear in dreams, so sure, Penny is a good one.

Yeah, weirdly, I can only come up with a handful of obvious examples myself -- I feel like there are way more that I'm just not thinking of.
