Great list, but I would also add Arthur Miller on the Great American playwright scale. If you don't see The Crucible for the social commentary that is STILL relevant or Death of a Salesman for the American Dream commentary - also STILL relevant - then you're doing yourself a disservice.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Miller, which is why I only name-dropped him in passing. I do love The Crucible, though.
