Keeping up with the news these days feels a bit like watching a Roland Emmerich film, except that Japan isn't being destroyed by his special effects department. It's kind of frightening

The "magic is drugs" plot, and some of the non-arc episodes were extremely bad. It still has some good things to recommend it. 7th season doesn't even have that.
Okay, my love of Angel season three has a lot do to the with kid (post pregnancy). Although there is a lot of other stuff that happens in the second half. Also, while Buffy gets kind of awful and icky and difficult, I've never actually hated it. More just, yeah, frustrated by wasted opportunity.
I'm trying to like Angel. Really I am. But mostly I'm just bored -- I really don't like baby storylines. Yes, it's fun watching Angel make goofy faces at the baby, but...eh. Doesn't do it for me, alas.
I think that apart from the Willow-as-druggie thing, S6 Buffy really isn't bad at all. Just very, very bleak, and characters making bad choices and suffering from the consequences -- which rings very true to me. So I'm not enjoying it, but not because it's poorly done. If that makes sense.
Don't let the haters tell you how to feel about S6. I actually like it quite a bit, though after "Smashed" there is a string of sub-par episodes, and the magic=drugs analogy bothers me A LOT. Still, I think he first part of the season and the last few episodes are very strong (though of course the later arc is good in a ripping out your heart sort of way). I think Buffy's post-resurrection character arc is terrific (darkness and all), especially in her interactions with Spike. Well, other than that spoilery thing later.
The magic=drugs is really my only problem with S6 so far (I'm more than halfway through it at this point). It's just bleak as all get-out. Which, hey, Whedon. It's not like this is surprising to me. It's painful to watch, but in a good way.
