Yellow Hat Guy Vs. Rob Liefeld

Time for a bit more industry drama, but this time the industry is comic books. You know ou're curious, especially when it doesn't involve you and isn't anything really serious. Heck, it's a lot more fun to read than the daily news, which is just depressing 90% of the time ( Read more... )

I grew up on Kirby comics, and I've forgotten about how much I loved Steve Rude's NEXUS, I even wrote fan letters they printed in the books. (sigh) but when comics went into the Liefeld-McFarlane style in the 90's I gave up on American comics and went to Japanese.

Thanks for reminding me about Rude, I hope I saved those comics ...

I kept up with Western comics until the late 90s then the spin offs and various collector editions became too much. Also the styles started to get ridiculous (to me). I stopped reading comics for a time until I started to explore anime then manga in college. I've only recently been trying to get back into western comics and all the new names.

I bet this guy didn't expect to get so much attention, making this sorta funny in a way he didn't plan. Wonder if he has any aspirations to get into the comic industry. If so, he's pretty screwed right now.

Yah, it is pretty hilarious the widespread reaction. XD

Oh yes, Liefeld's art, at least his 1990's stuff (I don't know how he is now) was full of over muscled men with disproportionate heads, hands and feet. I didn't realize I knew his art from way back then, because I remember the names of the artist back then, but I recall thinking how oddly his X-Force was drawn, very very exaggerated. But I was hooked on x-titles at the time so read them anyway.

But the book thing could have been funny if not for the way it was done, perhaps engaging Liefeld rather than dropping off the book then scurrying away. Maybe Rob would have laughed with him rather than, as is happening now, at him. What was what struck me as particularly pathetic, that Yellow Hat Guy portrayed himself in his post as bold, daring (if nervous) and in your face whereas Liefeld and his companions describe him otherwise.

Here's an unpublished interview with Liefeld btw.

That is actually kind of sad...some geeks just have no life.

I never got into American superhero comics growing up, so don't know who most of these people mentioned are. It seems like there is more real life drama with American creators than the Asian ones?

Maybe we just don't hear all the foreign drama. I'm sure they have some, but their culture may keep it more under wraps or perhaps it's more subtle.

That reminds me of this book, A Drifting Life I saw in the bookstore. I was curious about it, but it is so darn biiig.

800 pages? Wow. That is a hefty book.

There's plenty of drama, I think. It's just that most of it is in Japanese. I've heard stories of this and that, but for a rather straightforward example of drama: Plagiarism is a problem. (The article isn't bad, but the examples are a mix of false/weak accusations to the most blatant examples of copyright infringement ( ... )

Nice to meet you Anonymous. Personally, I wish to avoid sinking to name calling, cursing and naming names, so I will keep my reply short. I encourage you to keep your comments in other people's journals civil as well. We are all, I assume, adults. :)

If you think I'm talking about Fehed to "every single person" so be it. I won't try to convince you otherwise, as I know you won't believe me, so I suggest you ask those "every single people" if I've been naming him in conversations.

Regarding stalking, one way a person might determine I am stalking someone is if the alleged stalkee is stalking me or having others do so for him or her. As I did not mention anyone's Tweets aside from Mr. Liefeld's in this post, I assume you're referring to something I said elsewhere on the internet. If so, why are you following my actions so closely if you despise me? Please, move on with your life, dear Anonymous.

kayay, this is your own journal, not a forum, not a chat room, I'd say, write whatever the hell you want. End of Story.
