Arcade Games

These old arcade games have a place in my heart. This was in the day of the Atari and later the NES64, but we couldn't afford either. Both the consoles and the games were too much, and used game stores weren't as common as they are today, so the only games we played were on the big old arcade machines ( Read more... )

You DO sound old. :-P

By the time I got around, arcades were already starting to go musty with obsolete games. Then again, maybe it's just different in the US. I remember having to use dollar coins in our machines -- certainly not quarters.

*hit hit hit*

Yeah, this was back in the day of actual quarter games. I think Dragon's Lair was one of the earlier ones to cost fifty cents or more, and I stunk at it.

Heh. My later experience probably hs little to do with age really. We had an Atari too, though my memory's kind of hazy now. I don't think I went anywhere near an arcade until the Playstation was already out. *shrugs* I didn't really like the idea of having to put dollar coins in. I mean, after a while it adds up to games you could have bought.

I still play tetris.

But if you want a really good and old game, google Supaplex, and download it. 111 levels, incredibly addicting and stimulating for your mind. Been playing it since I was 5 and I still love it.

*wallows in the nostalgia*

One of my chums has spent over 2 years building an arcade machine of sorts; blog with pictures here.

I stunk at that game a little less than I did at Mortal Combat and Dragon's Lair. I can't remember which class I tended to play though.

I'm afraid I never played many arcade games. I vaguely remember a few rounds of Pacman and various fighter or racing games of which I don't remember the names, but they were all from the 90's. I guess they didn't attract my attention much. Most of the arcades I've been to are of the Chuck E. Cheese kind where, besides typical arcade games, they have skiing, racing, bowling, hoops, and games that give you tickets you can trade for prizes. Even those though I haven't been to very often, either because they sucked up money too quickly or there weren't any around. ^^;

Speaking of Chuck E. Cheese, those robotic performers were kind of creepy; remember those? And I knew a gal who got hit on by the guy who wore the Chuck E Cheese costume... while he was wearing it. XD

I do remember those things! But I only remember thinking that they were ugly. XD
Hit on by Chuck E. Cheese? hahaha That could be really creepy and really funny at the same time. Or perhaps a cause for jealousy among any five-year-old girls in the vicinity?

It's funny how video games have gotten progressively easier as time has passed. I'm quite accomplished in video games from the 8-bit era, and games after the 16-bit era are effortless. However I'll be damned if I can last more than 5 minutes in Space Invaders/Centipede/Pacman.

System Shock 2 (one of my most favoritest games ever) has an item in it called 'Gamepig'. It's a parody of a gameboy and you can find cartridges throughout the game that can be used with your Gamepig to play pig-themed clones of many old games (such as Frogger, Missile Command, Spy Hunter etc). I think there's like 15 games you can find for it, all old school :)
