Parkour and street tricking are definitely similar, and there is some cross-over between them. The biggest difference is in the philosophy.
Parkour is about being practical. Backflips, etc are just showy, so they don't really have a place in parkour. Parkour is about being ready to overcome obstacles.
People often describe how the "founder" of parkour was inspired by the idea of ninjas, and jumping across rooftops, but its roots lie before him -- with skills learnt by his father in the Vietnam War.
Street tricking, aka Freestyle Parkour, is the fancy-shmancy side of it.

But the first thing I'd need is the time.
Oh, and that said, I'm definitely not interested in the crazy stuff. I'd rather avoid broken skin, flesh and bones. I happen to like my bones.
