Television (Fringe, Flashforward, Heroes)

I spent almost all weekend catching up on season one of Fringe as well as the two episodes of season two that have already aired. Some basic thoughts under the cut. Includes spoilers for the whole series, including what's been aired in season two.

Watching the Emmys gave me one reason I keep feeling Olivia's a bit "off" in Fringe (I like her, but...I just...she throws me off). She's not American (though the character is), I think it results in her dialogue sounding more stilted as she tries to fake the accent. I dunno. Just a theory.

And yes, after the end of Season 1 (OMG OMG OMG), Season Two so far hasn't been riveting, although I do like Peter and dad's dynamic growing closer. Feel bad the partner is the new "Francie" (that's what reminded me in S2 this was an Abrams baby).

I liked the premiere of FlashForward. I've been looking forward to the show (forgot the Braga connection, but I won't hold it against him...hey, I *liked* Voyager).

Avoiding Heroes comments because I will catch up with it on Hulu.

Ah, I thought Olivia's accent was kind of off, especially in the first few episodes. I kept trying to figure out if it was supposed to be some kind of regional accent. That could definitely be a factor in her overall "offness."

Is the "Francie" a Lost reference? Or some other Abrams show? Because I have never successfully stuck with an Abrams show so I don't really get the reference.

It's Alias. The show with Jennifer Garner as a secret agent/grad student with an extremely dysfunctional family.

She roomed with Francie* who didn't know her spy life...who was brutally murdered and replaced by an evil secret agent at the season 1 finale/season 2 premiere-ish. Francie was a very popular character so her death was shocking. Sound familiar at all? ;-)

(Her name may have been Francine. I'm very rusty on my Alias knowledge).

As for Olivia. I should look her up on imdb. When she was a presenter at the Emmys, it sounded...British colonial to me, but I'm really not saavy enough to pin it down. I don't *think* it was island British or Scottish, but South African...maybe even Australian...or...um...yeah, no idea. [have probably insulted several people who think those accents sound NOTHING alike].

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I was trying to forget that they killed off Charlie in such a...random way. :(

According to IMDB, Anna Torv is from Melbourne, Australia, so hey! One of your guesses was right! I probably wouldn't have even been able to pin it down British colonial, I'm so horrible at identifying accents.

I like Flashforward and look forward to seeing what they do with it. I need to watch ep 2 of Fringe and didn't bother with the other and not sure I will.
