TV Sci-Fi! By (not a true) Sci-Fi Fan

So there's this: Your Complete Guide to Fall Science Fiction TV. Man, are the pickings slim this year. Of course, it's kind of my own personal theory that odd-numbered years in general are terrible for new TV shows. And I have such a hard time keeping up with shows that I do watch, and I don't watch that many (current count of shows I make a point ( Read more... )

FlashForward sounds intriguing to me. Wondered why you found it yawnworthy from the pitch. (I don't really know much about it aside from the pitch).

I do recommend catching up on Fringe. I had dropped it about half way through the season and then picked up the rest via Hulu. The stories got tighter (and less icky gross CSI stuff).

I like Medium (now switched to CBS). Mainly I like the "normal" stuff in it, the relationship with her husband and being mom. Your mentioning of "Ghost Whisperer" made me think of it (and yeah GW...doesn't interest me at all).

Sanctuary is a bit up and down for the season. I'm hoping it's got sturdier legs for Season Two.

(Hey, don't knock Deadliest Catch....j/k. I seem to be a sucker for Mike Rowe, even in voiceover).

I refuse to acknowledge any show called FlashForward that doesn't star Jewel Staite on the Disney channel.

Fringe is one of those shows where I'd rather like to know what happens next, but I can't usually be bothered to pay much attention while it's actually on. I'll have it on in the background and do other stuff in the meantime. The first episode bothered me a bit with what I could only consider borderline misogyny... I wrote an entry describing my impressions in the form of a story reduction, which may have been a little unfair, but it didn't impress me. I think they improved on the formula after a few episodes, and I remembered how much I disliked the pilot episode of House when I got around to watching it after I was already a fan of the show. Fringe could work. I just don't plan to care enough to make it a favorite show.

When it comes to TV my attention span is pretty much zero...something has to really catch my eye for me to make a point to watch it. Nothing I've heard about FlashForward (I don't know much beyond the pitch, either) has really struck me as that interesting. I don't know.

I felt so bad for dropping Sanctuary because I had been looking forward to it since I'd heard it was going to be on TV, but last fall when I wasn't working I was sleeping.

Hmm, why wasn't Medium on this list? Did it get renewed? My mom likes that show, but I can only take it in small doses. I'll watch it with her sometimes.

LOL! My mom tuned me into Medium too. It must be a mom thing.

NBC canceled Medium at the end of last season. However, CBS picked it up (good because it was a cliffhanger). And is going to start airing it this fall.

Sanctuary to me is a show with potential in concept, but is shaky on execution. Sometimes it does great (that ep with them trapped in a plane crash--a trope but it was done well, or the finale). Sometimes it goes bad (aphrodesiac tribbles).
