Well, they'll be shorter seasons, and maybe this means the writers can actually take the arc somewhere now that they know it's not going to be stretched out indefinitely.
I was actually thinking of your poll a lot while watching this week's episode -- "hypersonic sound waves"? Mark Gatiss is pretty great in the BBC comedy/scifi radio show Nebulous, where he plays a Doctor-like character. I highly recommend downloading it if you can find it; the guy who runs that website will also send CDs for the price of postage.
Yeah, the survey was inspired by reading reviews of various sci-fi shows online, including Doctor Who, and me noticing there seemed to be an odd trend when it came to level of scientific knowledge/experience and how likely someone was going to be really upset by the bad science.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check that out.
I'm glad we now have an official date for the end of Lost. That's how it's done! Not just keep the show going even if it has no story to tell anymore. But I don't like the 16 episodes season idea.
I agree. I prefer that they have an actual end in sight so that they know how long they have to complete the story. The problem with doing heavily arced shows is that there's always the chance that a) the show gets canceled before the arc is concluded, or b) the show keeps getting renewed indefinitely so that the writers have to constantly find ways of stretching out the arc and taking it different places, which often results in things just getting too convoluted for anyone to keep track of (X-Files is a very good example of that, I think). The writers knowing exactly how long they have left, enough ahead of time so that it doesn't have to be rushed, is a good place to be, I think.
