I've had my hearing tested many times during my childhood and teen years, due to problems making out what people are saying. The last time was 20 years ago. They were never able to find anything and always concluded that my hearing was actually very sharp, so I never bothered about it again. Fascinating!! Our girls were first diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing around 3yrs old - which is the 'untangling' of sound that you mention (also BEST description of it I've ever heard!) and only Asperger's in high school. I wonder if I should see if I can get them tested for their hearing like this? Would it be helpful to know?

There see, they didn't have that when I was a child. I don't know whether it would help them, since they already know what causes their hearing issue, but it sure is neat learning that my hearing range is outside of typical.

I plan to blog this on Snakedancing as well, just need to get the time.
