I think Joe is this year's John! I completely agree with you; so far he seems to be mostly slouching as he walks across the floor. Husband also made the comment that Kristina is too short for him.

I'm surprised Martina and Matthew have gone out; I don't know what Len was thinking either!

I need a new judges icon...

Which reminds me, what did you think of Alesha? I'm finding her comments a little bland. Arlene annoyed me at times but she at least was an entertaining judge.

In all honesty, I think the BBC had a particular aim in mind when putting her on the panel - I think they wanted someone there whom the audience could relate to (following last year's shenanigans), someone to reflect the 'entertainment' element of the show (vs the technical element, again after last year) and someone who could also offer the contestants a bit of confidence-boosting reassurance. If I go on that assumption, she's doing exactly what they want her to do ( ... )

but as that's the same way I am expressing my views at home
That's what I don't like actually, if I could say the same thing then why's she getting a huge salary for it? It could be anyone on the panel for that. I wanted her to focus more on general performance and musicality because she is good at that. I wondered if maybe she was a bit nervous knowing people were judging her judging, so to speak. In a way it's good Matthew's gone so early I felt a bit weird when she was commenting on his performance. Maybe she'll relax a bit next week.

It did get a bit annoying last year when someone was really entertaining then the judges got all hung up on the technical aspects. Hopefully she'll even that out a bit.

Thought that was unfair on Martina, but then she was in the middle, and the danger zone, and who would vote for her? But then I can't see anyone other than a relative or friend voting for Joe! I do think Rav has some potential; I wasn't that surprised at the judges' vote as it was close.

I don't know why Alesha doesn't comment on the music choices or choreography - at least that would be logical and slightly different to what the others pick up on. And what happens when Darcey starts judging: do we have five or does Alesha go back in the audience?!

I wish Alesha had commented on music and choregraphy, play to her strengths otherwise what's she really adding to the panel?

And what happens when Darcey starts judging: do we have five or does Alesha go back in the audience?!
Yeah I wondered about that.

she was in the middle, and the danger zone, and who would vote for her?
Yeah to be honest I was a bit worried about that, she wasn't great but wasn't awful so that's always dangerous. Not sure why anyone voted for Joe, he didn't dance and doesn't appear to have any personality. Why vote for him just coz he's a boxer??

It's all quite strange as before anyone had danced a step in public, he was joint favourite. And the bookmakers normally hear 'whispers' from the training rooms about who's good and who's not. (Last year Tom was favourite at week one, before Austin overtook him after they'd danced.) I also read several newspaper preview columns where Joe was supposed to be the one to look out for. As you say, you get through the early rounds either because you can dance a bit, have a personality, or get the sympathy vote. I must have missed something as I don't know what he's qualified on!

Did you watch Merlin? Is this going to be the series where Bradley has to take his shirt off at every opportunity? ;)

LOL! I think he was shirtless for about half of this episode wasn't he! Not complaining ;) And I liked that they're starting to build the Arthur/Gwen, though I must admit to still have a soft spot for Merlin/Arthur, when Merlin was all "I do everything for him and he just thinks I'm an idiot" I was all "aww cutie" LOL

I largely agree with you. Thought Martina was rather unlucky, was very impressed with Ali, Jade and Chris and thought Ricky's dance was good fun. Professionals were on top form in their dance too - I love watching those bits.

The jury's still out on Alesha - last night she seemed a bit of a waste of space but seemed to have more to say tonight I thought. And I was never keen on Arlene's awful alliteration and personal comments. OTOH I feel like Alesha's comments don't have much substance...

I'm reserving judgement, since she's probably still finding her feet.

The more I think about it the more I think she was nervous and holding back a bit because she knows people will be watching her closely. She might be more relaxed from now on.

The professionals dance was fantastic, that was one reason I was a little sad they dropped the Sunday show because I thought maybe they wouldn't have time for the professionals to dance themselves which I think would be a loss. It's always fascinating to see the dances done properly.

I was surprised Martina went too. I thought she and Matt had a lot of potential as a couple, and I'm not sure I see the same with Rav and Aliona (or however you spell it). Ricky and Ali are my favourites too. I thought Ricky was ace last night - I always love the people who come out and just dance and go for it. Dance of the night for me :D.

Ricky was good, I really enjoyed his performance. If he can get the steps down I think he might do quite well. And he seems like a nice guy as well, doesn't take himself too seriously which I always like.
