Did everybody know about this but me?

I was listening to an interview with Misha Collins over at Slice of Scifi and I learnt something I don't think I knew. Actually, it's kind of weird because the more I think about it the more I think perhaps I did know but perhaps I've forgotten somewhere along the way...

Anyway. One of the interviewers mentioned that at the end of 'Red Sky at ( Read more... )

Yep! At first I thought maybe it just sounded like 'castiel' but it's definitely 'castiel'. I wonder what - if anything - it means. :)

I never noticed it either but then again I think I've watched 'Red Sky' a total of one-point-five times. Or maybe twice. ;)

Maybe they were just throwing out words.

I don't think it has anything to do with anything.

It just sounds latin mixed in with the other words *shrugs*

I think you're right and maybe they just forgot they'd already used the word 'castiel'. MAYBE the word has significant meaning for one of the writing staff. You know, they had a pet bunny or rock called 'Castiel' when they were a kid. ;)

It's kind of cool and even if it doesn't mean anything in relation to the mythology, I think it indicates the word has some significance to someone behind the show. Surely a made up word doesn't get made up twice too often. :)

I knew that actually, but only because one of my flist speaks latin and was pointing that out early in the season
its very cool!

It is cool. Your friend didn't happen to know what it meant - if anything. Is 'castiel' a Latin word? I know it's a place in Switzerland but that's about it. It's tricky finding anything about the origin of word these days because 9 out of 10 Google entries are Supernatural related! I remember Googling it right after 4x01 and there was nothing! *g*

no Castiel isnt a Latin word, it is literally a name, I believe the sentence was like "I summon and then the names one of which is Castiel :)

Well, that is interesting. If it was used as a name in 'Red Sky', I can't see how it can't be significant. I mean, if the rest of the ritual was actual Latin then it would stand to reason Castiel could be a name. And then to have an Angel turn up with the same name. It can't be a coincidence, however, I guess it could be an oversight - they simply forgot they'd used the name before. :)
Thanks for the info.
