New Project!

I've landed an assignment at the Australian Consulate in Chicago, and will be staying in one of the Trade Ministry's apartments. (They're supposed to be gorgeous, with a lovely view of the Oak Street Beach.) They've even secured me a car and a per diem. I don't know how long the project will last, but I'm very excited ( Read more... )

Feel free to drop me a line when you hit Chicago. I've lived here (or in the suburbs) most of my life. Between my wife and I, we can cover most of the good food and shopping.

How very sweet of you, thanks! I'm actually here now, but can't move into my apartment until the Consulate member currently living there is transferred back to Sydney, which should only be another week or so.

Nice to meet you, kind sir, and I will definitely take you up on your offer for some pointers and advice!

No problem. My little brother lives on Michigan avenue right by the river. He knows all the good stuff down there.

Oh, and since I see you are interested in guns, we could arrange a trip to the range while you're here. You'd need to leave Chicago and come to the 'burbs for that, though.

Oh, I'd love to go shooting with you! As I was telling another gentleman on my friend list, my diplomatic visa allowed me to bring my revolver to the States with me, but I was told that I was not allowed to carry it in Chicago because of the city's very strict (and unconstitutional!) firearm prohibitions. Technically, I cannot be prosecuted for having it under U.S./Australian emissary agreements, but carrying it would probably get me into a lot of unnecessary trouble (on both sides of the Pond), if you know what I mean. If I want to move here permanently, which is my goal, I have to be very careful to play by the rules, even if the rules are unfair.
