Apr 03, 2009 11:04

I think I can breath a sigh of relief......My friend told me Jin and Maki have broken up.

赤西とはもう別れたのでしょうかね。付き合っていたかどうかかわかりませんが・・・。

Edit: the blogger said ""So she and Akanishi already broke up. But I don't know if they were really dating..."

My Japanese is as good as google translator so I trust my friend ( Read more... )

Did you friend say that "付き合っていたかどうかかわかりませんが・・・" was "I don't know if he's dating anyone", or was it more like "I don't know whether or not (we) were dating"?

From just that sentence alone, that's the translation I would give. But maybe if I read the entire article or something, the context would be different. However, that sentence doesn't mention a "anyone" or any type of person, so it's hard to imagine her wanting to say "I don't know if he's dating anyone", even inside the context of the article.

Lol, sorry, just a random pondering.

it doesn't make sense tho if she said "Akanishi and I broke up already and I don't know whether or not we were dating?" it's kinda contradicting..

Well, even though the literal translation is "I don't know whether or not we were dating", the "が" at the very end signifies "but...", so it gives it a kind of vague quality to the sentence. Meaning, it's kind of like saying "I can't really say if we were dating or not, but...", so it's possible that she added that to not make any definitive statements. That's both the Japanese way, and the celebrity-way in Japan specifically (especially if relationships are frowned upon in the Johnny Jimusho).

I feel like saying "I don't know if he's dating anyone" makes even less sense, considering that seems to be superfluous information. I don't think I'd write about something like that in my blog if I've just broken up with a guy, especially if it's a public blog.

Well, I second this. My translation of the 2 sentences would be something like: "It seems that Akanishi and I broke up already. But I don't even know if we were really dating or not" The whole thing has a feeling of uncertainty, she gives the idea that she's the first who doesn't know what her relationship with Jin was and what it is now.

ahhh.. so relieved!! i'm so glad they've finally split up.. form what i heard, she didn't seem like a nice girl.. i can't believe i was even happy for them at first when i heard about this relationship! how very wrong was i?? but then again,, i dunno if all the bad things said about her are true, so i can't really judge her by it...

oh wells, she's a celebrity so she should give a good impression to people (which she failed to do so) so yeah.. i'm happy!!!

All I want to know is that Jin is happy. If they weren't meant to be, that's a great thing they broke up (if they were actually dating & if they actually broke up).

However ... YAYYY XD
