Comics

It's funny, around these parts of fandom "comics" pretty much means the superhero variety, but as a kid, that wasn't what I read. I knew who Superman and Batman were, but that was more because of TV and movies than because of comics. I had only the vaguest idea of Spider-Man and Wonder Woman, and I had never heard of X-Men or the Avengers ( Read more... )

tintin, buster, buddy longway, spirou, gordon stewart, modesty blaise, johnny hazard, comics, garth, rick o'shay, johnny puma, flash gordon, barry king, the phantom, kid cox, valhalla

Aw, Bamse...

But, maybe it's a scandinavian thing? 'cause I had pretty much the same experience with comics. Including the Phantom and Agent X9 and Tintin and Spirou and Valhalla (Loke rules! hee). And the Knights of Dor, but that was later (utterly brilliant fantasy by InkaLill), and of course the comicstrips books, like Nemi and Pondus and Eon.

Also, been trying to remember since you wrote Modesty up in your League... Was Garth the time-travelling detective dude?

On DC and Marvel, I like the Vertigo line and X-Men, but they're not _real_ the way I consider Modesty to be, or Valhalla. Like DC and Marvel have fake comicbooks, kind of.

*headshakes* Something like that.

Yeah, probably. I remember one issue where he went back in time to the American civil war and two sisters fought over him...

I see you're using one of the Nemi icons. :-) I'm cutting them down rather mercilessly for the mood thing - I want it to be 60/60 instead of 100/100, so they don't take up too much space.

Yeah? I think I remember him going to some sort of Utopia... or possibly Atlantis. There was crystals and things going wrong, at any rate.

And, I could resist the Nemi! So cute! and I nicked the Clepto-nemi one as well. Let me know if you'd rather I didn't use them. :)

60/60 sounds good. *nods* 100/100 is a bit much for moodicons. *wry*

I remember Rick O'Shay! *warm fuzzies*
I think I was in love with Rick O'Shay. But it took me a long time to get the Conniption-joke. Hysterical indeed.

*grin* I wasn't all that in love with Rick O'Shay, but I was definitely in love with Latigo, who was drawn by the same guy, so that's close. :-) I was in love with Buddy Longway's Jeremiah too, so there must be something about the Indian blood...

I still don't get "conniption". Explain, please?

Ah. *g* Well, that's just to be expected from a comic that has a character called Hipshot Percussion.
