(Seems I'm finding my way back to this place... weird...)

I saw the pilot to Outlander, and I got to say, way too much voiceover. I'm dubious of "show, don't tell" when it comes to books, but it's definitely true in movies, and this was just tell, tell, tell, with the visuals being more pretty pictures to illustrate the words than anything else. The ep was boring for me, as well. But the first 50 pages of the book were boring to me. I had hoped they would make it more interesting somehow.
I kept having to remind myself that I didn't like Claire in the books, either. I forget that with the more recent books, because they are so much less about her. I guess I had hoped they would cast a more like-able Claire, as well.
Not sure what the streaming opportunities will be for the other episodes, but I plan to watch...

I don't remember if the book started out boring to me when I first read it. I don't think so, but books have a greater leeway to be introspective than TV does - and in any case I probably breezed through those chapters a lot faster.

I used to like Claire, but everything about these books is hopelessly mingled with fond memories and present embarrassment, so I can't even say what I'd think of her if I encountered her now.

I've seen the second ep now and am happy to report that there's much less narration. Though I think the goriness will reoccur, based on what happens in the books.
