Stuff I've read and watched lately

In the category of things I've done lately, I have read the entire Mediator series by Meg Cabot. Now, Meg Cabot is someone I always find simultaneously delightful and frustrating. Delightful because she's funny, with likeable characters who end up in adventures that are fun to read about. Frustrating, because somehow her books always end up as some ( Read more... )

I love, loved, loved the Mediator series - in fact, one of the all-time biggest laughs of my life came from the moment the mediator kid confesses to Suze, "I see dead people ( ... )

Pushing Meg Cabot to be darker seems rather like asking Beatrix Potter to get rid of those talking animals. Stupid publishers.

I'm not that nuts about the Princess Diaries books (though I've only read the first couple), probably because they lack the genre factor, or maybe because I can't get the blandness of the movie out of my head. But I've had some fun with the Airhead trilogy, and have peeked into Heather Wells, and a couple of Allie Finkles that I picked up at work. Allie of course lacks the "why don't boys like me?" factor, which makes them more enjoyable, even if I still prefer Cabot's style with weird shit thrown in. I should probably check out the 1-800 series! And thanks for the other tip too!
