One of the most fun things about writing Sherlock Holmes casefic is that it allows me to have some high-octane badassery. I'm not used to that; I usually write about girlymen. :-) Now, I can let Watson fight two men, on a cold wet day when he's already in pain, he's just been shot in the back/side, one of the villains has just punched him in the ( Read more... )

Wheeee, I love badass!Watson.

One of my favourite moments in the movie is when Irene & Holmes are working out how to disable Blackwood's machine, and in the background you can see Watson casually taking on about eight henchmen.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA moose. They aren't even called moose. Moose live in America. We have elks, though. And Swedish sounds like gagging? Sweet.

I don't want to be too mean, because when morthel called her on it she was totally gracious about it, but...

In all fairness, I think moose and elk are the same species.

Technically, the American moose is Alces Americanus and our elk is Alces Alces. But yes, they are basically the same species, though I think the moose is bigger than the Eurasian elk (not sure about that, though). My point was that "moose" is really the name for the American form of the animal, though it seems to be used pretty much interchangingly. And if you write a story set in Sweden it might be good to know -- though to be fair, the protagonists were American (I assume).

Also, an elk that wandered by and saw two humans making out in the snow would in all likelihood NOT be particularly dangerous. :)

Not that I really expect an American to know that, though. It's things like this that brings out and reinforces all my nasty little prejudices about Americans.

Well, fortunately, I don't think she's American.

Mostly, I was just baffled that they'd be in a "hotel" cabin with no civilization and no one to talk to except a kid who must have been five or so, since he didn't speak English.

Eh, to me it sounded like she was trying to do some kind of funny take on Alaska. Also gagging is like... movie alien languages.

I don't know Lost, but somehow, Kate and Juliet could have been anyone in that fic. Maybe it's just me.

I'm going to go watch V, because I have the desire to see Elizabeth Mitchell's face now.

Definitely not just you. And do watch V! Elizabeth Mitchell's face is always good. Me, I'm watching Doctor Who. :-)

I wish there would have been more Threshold. I'm not sure the plot would have made more sense, but there would've been more Molly Caffrey! Molly is one of my favoritest female characters, and she has a great job type thing. *g*

I expected to love Molly more than I did, since it's Carla Gugino, but mostly I just felt that, okay, she's a main character and I don't dislike her, which is more than I can say for most shows.

Hee, true.

I rewatched it fairly recently (it may have been on tv?) and I liked her a lot more then than I remember doing the first time I saw it, so I don't know.

Possibly it helps to know the plot? Her personality is a lot more downplayed than the others' - she spends a lot of time reacting to things and it's hard to tell what the default is, but I think maybe it's one of those things that's easier to see on rewatch.
