Where Katta gets her religious hat on

Happy first of advent! In some ways, I like advent better than Christmas - the lighting of candles, the music, and the sense that while it's still dark and rainy outside, we're entering a new state of cozyness. And it's also a lot easier to start thinking about religion than it is later in the Christmas preparations ( Read more... )

I'm an atheist but I still have a great admiration for Jesus. Such a sensible guy, and so much harm done in his name.

Emilia Fogelclou, one of Sweden's earliest Quakers, said, "Poor Jesus, if only people would worship him a little less and listen to him a little more." Which is one of several reasons I've considered joining the Quakers. (It's the whole sitting-still-and-quiet-for-an-hour thing that's stopping me, really.)

If I had any religious faith whatsoever...I'd probably be a Buddhist. But if I was a Christian, it would definitely be them. There's still a lot of sitting still and quiet, though.

HAHAHAHA!!! Oh, that was too awesome for words! I'm sitting here with my very unfunny upper respiratory infection, laughing until I choked. Thanks for posting that!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, though nasty respiratory infections should just go away already.

Brilliant! May I pass this on to my husband? He might find it useful!

And I prefer Advent to Christmas in many ways too - the expectation and the sense of wonder.

Thank you! And sure, pass it on, though I'm not sure exactly how it would be useful. It's not as if Jesus actually said those things. He just spends the gospels talking about things not-sex.

There are some people who need that point hammering into their heads, and this might work better than just saying it straight out!
