Actually, there are no lyrics to Gärdebylåten originally, so any lyrics you hear are modern, whatever they are.
I see you decided to use "fields" instead of "steppe". Any particular reason? Too centred on Mongolia? (Just curious.)

I've heard some lyrics to Gärdebylåten before, but it wasn't these... even without understanding the ones in the clip, I'm pretty sure I've never heard them before. :-) But as you say, it doesn't really matter, since they're all the proper ones, or none of them.

No, no particular reason, except that I mostly did the lyrics while on the bus and sorting books, so I didn't have access to a dictionary...

In my favorite TV series of all time, there's an episode where they sing a song with that rhyme. It goes:
"I'm in love I'm in love with Attila the Hun
Attila the Hun Attila the Hun
Though he pillaged the village and killed every one
I still love Attila the Hun."
