on slash of the boyslash and femslash variety

*reads slash discussion* I always feel like such a rotten ficcer in slash discussions because I don't really care about subtext - not for the purpose of fanfiction. (Though of course I enjoy it for the purpose of squee.) The assumption usually seems to be that either you write based on the subtext (real or perceived), or you write based on teh ( Read more... )

I have never heard of this Kiki Strike, but I might read such a story anyway because there isn't enough femslash in the world. But really, what I want to read is the Anne/Katherine story. Give! Now! :-)

It's a really nice new adventure series starring a gang of girls called "The Irregulars", not entirely legal but entirely awesome.

And it's good to know you support my slashing up YA novels. :-)

But really, what I want to read is the Anne/Katherine story. Give! Now! :-)

I only have a page so far! And I have some trouble deciding if I want it to be book or series - they're really too different for it to be both. I'm leaning towards series, since Anne is and always will be Megan Follows to me, but it might upset some purists.

I write based on what I think would make an interesting story. Sometimes there's lots and lots of subtext in canon. Sometimes there's very little, or none at all, or the characters never met. As long as I can make the story credible, I don't care, nor do I see one story as the definite interpretation.

As long as it's a credible treatment, it's like alchemy - characters encounter each other and it's gold! I think yours is a great attitude, especially with respect to a lack of dogmatism about the pairing(s) you choose to explore. I like both Buffy and Faith (sometimes Buffy, with reservations based on issues you can probably guess; late-season Faith), but I'd prefer them with most other female characters on BtVS or AtS, rather than with each other.

I saw the Anne/Diana too in the books (haven't watched the miniseries) and what fiction I've noticed for the pairing isn't overly angsty, but I'm not that interested in Diana as a character. Anyways, I get what you're saying. Anne/Katherine is a brilliant idea!

Thank you! I get kind of grumpy at the snickering attitude that, oh, there are so many pairings out there, the authors must be either pervs seeing sex everywhere, or just care about putting two pretty people together.

I think my childhood love for fairy tales and Greek mythology might have made a difference - if the same story ends in three different ways, you get used to the idea of what-ifs.

Anne/Katherine is a brilliant idea!

Wow, people are really coming on board here! I'm so glad, since I have 1100+ words already.

Ooh, I loved Greek mythology and fairy tales as a child. The idea that there doesn't have to be one ur-version is behind the better stories fans write, I think.

That's awesome. Looking forward to it!

I guess I should have voted "Who? on the poll as I really don't know anything about that, but I figured I'm happy to read anything.
