Nonita challenge + A Sudden Wild Magic fic

Jul 08, 2007 20:21

SO, a few days ago I read a Nabokov parody by Umberto Eco called "Nonita" ("Granita" in English, for those of you who want to look it up.) It was about a man's attraction to an 80-year-old woman, and the eventual disappointment he felt when she ran off with another man and got herself plastic surgery and spa treatment until she looked much younger ( Read more... )

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. New fandoms are always a bit tricky. I thought it was only fair that Gladys got to score too. ;-)

I might just take you up on that offer, Katta - I agree. There are plenty of young people fics out there, but rarely do I see fics with people over the age of 40.

What age ranges are you envisioning for this challenge?

Oops! I just saw "60." That's cool! My brain is going through the possibilities now... ;)

My story may not count, as I wrote it before you issued your challenge, but it does meet the criteria. It features two people in their sixties, who were lovers decades ago, coming together once again. It's X-Files, if that makes a difference.

"Old Friends"

And there they are in my icon!

Lovely! I'm not familiar with the characters, but the mere existance is great. And I don't have any hard rules for this thing, so I'll count it if you want me to count it.

I certainly don't mind if you don't count it, just thought I'd mention it as the genre is rare enough that every little bit helps. Also I'm rather fond of it. :)

This is, ummm, an old story of mine:

Pallid, shuddering with horror, Snape slammed the door of the Senior Common Room.
“Would you believe it?” he asked his friend. “Harry-naffing-Potter just propositioned me!”

“Of course I’d believe it,” Remus said. “Hermione hit on me yesterday. Ron positively groped me the day before that.”

“They think I would do something so nauseatingly perverse. They’re….young! Unformed! All that unwrinkled skin and their own teeth. All right, Potter’s got glasses, but they’re not even bifocals.”

“Dumbledorrrrre….” They sighed in unison. As if he’d so much as look at them!
“Those crow’s feet of yours are coming along nicely,” Remus said comfortingly.

shallot wrote the insanely hot James Bond/M fic Queen of Spades, which, did I mention the insanely hot.

Um, did you want to restrict that '60+' to unaltered Earth humans, or did you intend to include all of Highlander and Vampire Chronicles fandoms by default?

60+ for actors, I was thinking. Though book fandoms are complicated, of course. Since the point of Eco's story is the sexualisation of the aging body, I'll be shallow and suggest looking 60+.

And thanks for the rec!
