really, that is a problem that I constantly have with JB. For some reason, I really enjoy his writing. He's got a great whitty talent...
He just can't keep his heterosexuality or political beliefs out of his writing, and they usually run me off, until one day, I go back and remember why I enjoyed his stuff.
I'm fine with the guy being a heterosexual. I know plenty of very nice, heterosexual men. There are three of them just in my immediate family. :-) But heterosexual shouldn't mean ragging on gay people or getting a hysteric fit every time a man does something less than stereotypical.
Not to mention that somehow it has escaped him that Jimmy is not a tough and feared gunfighter, that's something made up by a writer, and Jimmy is constantly trying to get away from that reputation. But I guess that's too femmy to get acknowledged or something.
And yet, as I said, he still manages to be funnier than half of the TWoP crew.
Well... also... in Johnny's defense, he's just a little bit older than us.
So he was in the same mindset as a heterosexual young man viewing Jimmy as some kind of hero gunfighter, as we were watching Ike and Buck and Cody as being Hottness personified (or whatever).
I don't think I ever got through and entire review of his. If I remember correctly they seemed more of verbal slap-sticks than reviews. Too much JB in them and ot much else.
Yeah, that was why I stopped reading once upon a time. It had been so long since I watched an ep that I got confused - I couldn't tell what was commentary and what wasn't.
Right now, though, I'm starved for other people's opinions about the eps, and at least he's got one. Plus, he does have the occasional funny going on.
The fact that something I wrote five or six years ago is still being discussed is very flattering. As for Katta's specific objections, well, I would argue that the term "gay" within the context that I used it has nothing to do with the "homosexual" definition of gay. But some people have obviously already made up their minds about me, so I won't argue the subject any further
( ... )
If you don't want to argue the subject any further, then let's not. I could say certain things about the use of "gay" as a blanket term, the repeated use of slurs to indicate femmy or homosocial behavior, etc. but as you say, the reviews are years old. Perhaps it was inappropriate of me to use the present tense in my post, but then, we say Shakespeare "is" a brilliant playwright and so on. Maybe you've grown since then. Meanwhile, I stand by my assessment of the reviews themselves and the attitude I see there.
Also, I feel the need to say this: quotation marks are normally used for actual quotes. I did not call you, nor have I ever called you, a "rude abnoxious jerk". Nor did anyone else in this thread.

Though Buck at least is a fairly pretty boy. Not Johnny Depp pretty, but he definitely beats the 90210 blokes.
