Why would a woman want a guy like him?

I'm hanging out at work even though my hours are over since I won't have time to go home before double quartet practice anyway and might as well get some quality computer time in. Seems like the perfect time to make a post trying to figure out why on earth I'm so nuts about Sawyer ( Read more... )

Can't comment on the Lost stuff as I'm not a fan of the show at all, however the PG stuff was very interesting to me. I always enjoy reading others assesments of character. It was so good in fact, can I beg you to post it at _____holding_on ? The idea of empahty almost disguised or misunderstood is one of the reason Lynda fascinates me so much, and indeed, it's interesting to me in any character.

I'm afraid I can't really at this point separate the PG part of the post from the rest - it's all tangled up in my mind. And I don't really feel I'm saying any news where Lynda is concerned either; it's just that it took me a while to see the similarities between her and Sawyer. (On a first glance, they're very very different.) Still, never say never and all that - with some more thinking, who knows if I could come to a solution that's less about Sawyer and more about Lynda.

While I didn't know the most of major characters you were comparing him to, this was still an interesting read -- as you debate with yourself!

I have years of experience of doing that. I'm always amazed at people who simply have opinions without second-guessing themselves. *g*

As for Sawyer, I hated him early on and gradually grew to tolerate-verging-on-liking him. He finally won me over completely when he stepped up to protect Walt on the raft. He's not among my top favorites, but I still like him a lot.

Yeah, my journey was similar, though he won me over sooner. Seeing the season for a second time was interesting, because I noticed the number of times people assumed he did something wrong whether he did or not, and the number of times he did something right and nobody noticed.

Which isn't a "poor Sawyer" redemptionista thing, because he cultivates the asshole image and thus deserves the response he gets (and judging from the haircut clip I saw seems utterly dismayed when met by kindness); it's just an interesting thing to notice ( ... )
