But all the others reminded me of third season Angel/Cordelia: they keep saying it's love, and yet I don't see any sparks.
Hee, having just watched third season Angel/Cordelia (and God, I didn't think I'd find it so cringe-worthy as I did -I actually couldn't see the last two eps in one go, because their scenes made me so uncomfortable that I had to pause), I couldn't agree with you more. I do think H/G is foreshadowed, but the problem is, all foreshadowing there is symbollic there is no subtext, or chemistry. I didn't see much chemistry between R/Hr either, to be honest. Haven't since GoF. Yeah, they are jealous of each other, but it feels forced, and when it degrades to physical attacks it's just too much.

On the other hand, there's some lovely Wes/Lilah inbetween. Years later, I still grin at "I wasn't thinking about you while you were here."

I think it's partly habit on my part - I know they're supposed to have this banter/love thing going and I fill in the missing stuff myself. But you're right, there was nothing in this one as good as the scenes before the Yule Ball.
Colum MacKenzie is a character in Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Lynda Day is the female protagonist of the old TV show Press Gang. Both are definitely Slytherins, and Colum at least is a good man. Lynda is a ruthless bitch, but in a way that makes you love her anyway.
what came to my mind was Cordelia, circa S2-S3 of "Angel," when she really began to turn her formidable ambition to the service of "the good fight."
Hmmm, that's interesting. I'd never thought of Cordelia as a Slytherin, but I suppose she could be. Not as late as s3, though - by then, she was pretty much just a wet blanket. But s1 or early s2, yeah, I could see that.
