A few days ago, taraljc asked if female characters on TV are judged too harshly by female fans, and that set off a whole chain of thoughts from me. First I thought of how much I hate certain of the female characters I'm supposed to like. Then I thought of how perhaps this meant that I was part of the problem she was addressing. Then I thought of how I ( Read more... )

And what a fabulous way to get a kiss from George Clooney. ;-)

I know, it's just great. I've never been all that attracted to George (although he's very funny in the Coen movies he's starred in), but his reaction nearly made me change my mind.

What strikes me is that the female stereotype for successfulness is mirrored in the stereotype of masculine violence. Strange.

I've loved Clooney a very long time - he has that very fine sarcastic humor. At leasst I hope that's what it is ;)

Well, it's showbiz. I'm not going to go pacifist when it comes to showbiz - I'd lose all of that glorious entertainment violence. *grin* But I don't think an ability to fight is all that important to make a character likeable.

I absolutely loathed him in ER, but since then, I've seen him in the Coen brothers' movies and he's great fun there, but I suppose I never knew how much was just the writing until I saw him do something impromptu like this.

I've always liked Clooney (I never watched ER whe he was on, so I didn't get an impression then) but I knew I *really* liked him after reading this Vanity Fair article

Its a pretty lengthy article- but the last paragraph is another little trick he did kinda like the one you are talking about. I think he is actually quite the prankster, and is always willing to have a nice laugh directed at him.

*grin* I liked the part where he changed a guy's voicemail message. So childish - but funny!

In ER, he was The Pretty Guy. You know the type. "Oh, I'll be all attractive and a bit troubled and have an attractive and troubled relationship with a girl, and I'll be roguish yet with a heart of gold, blah blah blah..."

Do you think Kovach (sp?) has turned into that guy now? or are they changing Kovach *and* Carter into guys like that? Cause I *love* Kovach, but it seems like it is beginning to be the same story... then again, he hasn't knocked anyone up...

I haven't seen ER in years, so I don't know what Kovac is like these days, but he did enter the story as George Clooney's replacement. It was an improvement, IMO - the charm factor less thick, the occasional angst more legitimate, and so forth. But it wouldn't surprise me if he's gone stale by now.

And Carter always was a Pretty Guy, only he was second fiddle to the Doug Ross Pretty Guy and thus easier to stand.
