Have now seen ROTK

After reading people's LJ comments, and the professional reviews, I realized I couldn't wait until after Christmas, so I went to see Return of the King. Which ROCKED SO MUCH!

Because I have many things to say, I've divided it into several LJ cuts.

1. In which I discuss differences between Peter Jackson and myself. )

film talk, film review, berglin, slash, lord of the rings

The academy needs a best ensemble cast award. A good ensemble is so much rarer than a good leading actor, anyway.

Oh, yes, they definitely do. It might be tricky finding good nominees some years, but then, that goes for most awards.

But they shafted Ian McKellan for the first movie, though he acted more with his left eyebrow than any of them have acted in their lives, so they'll shaft Sean Astin for this one.

Astin has one thing over McKellan, though: this film has closure. Some people have guessed that the Academy have been holding out on LotR until the trilogy is finished, and I really hope they're right.

As for the Green Dragon, it does show that the hobbits are now alienated from their kinsmen, but I'm not sure that needed to be told - it feels a bit "well, duh". But maybe that's just because I've read the book.

Is it just my overactive imagination, or is one of the Hobbits in that Green Dragon scene (IIRC, he's holding something like a pumpkin) played by Andy Serkis sans Gollum CGI stuff? Take a look next time you see it, I'm convinced it's him...

David.

If it is, that's really cool! I hope to re-see the film soon, but this is one movie I like to see *with* someone, so I'll have to find a good victim first...
