That is precisely the reason why I've made it so the communities I manage use LJ's 'default' comment pages, at least, to try to make it so everyone can read.
It obviously doesn't stop the color font issue on someone's flist, as I sympathize with you, but at least makes things a little bit easier for readers when the poster is not exactly aware the rest of the world might not be in the same channel.
xD when i had my all-black layout it was a massive problem for me too. drove me up a wall, across the ceiling and down the other side. totally understand.

I know, I agree. I don't know what would ever make someone think yellow font on a light colored background is a good idea. I really agonized over text color when I did my LJ and fic comm--because I want people to be able to read!
