Short Essay: On Fandom

Mar 18, 2011 13:52

I just dusted off my random talk-about-whatever blog Ink to Page and posted a brief essay on my thoughts about fandom. And while I've mentioned it a few times in the past, I wanted to have a permanent record of my viewpoint online.

That was short and sweet and goddamn well explained.

Love the source - I really hope people start remembering this soon. *sigh*

"With cliques come pairing wars. With pairing wars comes the whole ideal of “If you say you’re my friend then you have to like PL70 better than PM or PCBLPM or Comic Series Inspired by PL70.” With that ideal comes arguments, more cliques, more pairing wars, ad nauseum forever and ever, amen."

I've seen that quite often in Naruto. It can definitely be enough to make you crazy. And that's not including those who write stories just for the sake of tearing characters they hate apart. Some just take the fandoms far too seriously. I stopped writing for Naruto because I was losing interest in the source. Although I'll admit it, I spoke up when I saw something that really ticked me off. Some of the reviews could be so rabid.
