Crowley said that he was using his own research to find the people they saved too - that where the Winchester's went, they tended to leave "messes", so it's not just Chuck's books. Though we know from Charlie finding them that what he wrote until S5 at least got published.
Other than that, you and I had similar reactions! Only I had very little hope for Sarah from the get go, because nothing in penultimate episodes ever work out.
Really good episode, and I'm anxious for next week - I have a feeling it will be a soul-destroying cliffy (as usual) :P
Thanks for clarifying about Crowley's sources--that's what I was thinking, but it also seemed like Crowley was covering up that he was using the books so I wasn't sure if there was more to it.
I'm sure next week's episode will hurt a lot and leave us hanging as well!
