He sees her walk on the set with a huge pink pastry box and knows the contents are for him. Giant sunglasses hide her eyes from his scrutiny, but he can guess why she's wearing them, and she's not the only one. He's wearing his too, and it's one of those rare cloudy days in LA. Adrian avoids everyone as much as possible, helping his assistant pack up his trailer and spending way too much time on the phone with his agent.

His last scene with Milo almost breaks him, and by the end they are both crying and wiping their eyes. They hug and pull each other's hair, making plans to meet up later and drink until they can't see straight. Adrian tells himself it's enough, it has to be enough. But he can't imagine not being a part of this show and the cast that is more like a family than friends. He's suddenly sorry he didn't spend enough time with them, saying proper goodbyes like he should have.

She's standing next to his car, damnable pink box in her hands, when he gets to the parking lot, hip propped up against the driver's side door, trapping him. He hits the button on his keyring to unlock it, running his fingers through his hair when the electronic beep sounds. He's so fucking tired and not in the mood for this; he wants to be drunk and surly, and he's pretty sure Natalie will find him and Milo on the lawn in the morning, or possibly by the pool, incoherent and hungover.

"You weren't going to say goodbye?" Hayden sounds hurt and her lower lip quivers, and even in the dark he can see how upset she is. He likes Hayden, a lot actually, probably too much. She was always the youngest one around and he always felt protective of her. Their flirting raised eyebrows, but then he flirts with everyone, it's who he is. Adrian's also the nice guy who loves his wife and kids and, until today, his job.

The bag he's carrying drops to the ground, and he opens his arms to her. "That for me?" he asks, the hug awkward with her arms full of whatever the hell is in the box.

"Cupcakes from that bakery down on Melrose." She's crying now, big shiny tears rolling down her cheeks and dripping off her chin, leaving wet spots on his t-shirt. "It's not fair, Adrian!" He takes the box from her and sets it on the hood of his car and goes about wiping her face with his fingers.

"Shh. It's just the business, Hayden. You know it and I know it." He feels like a dick for hiding from her all day, almost invites her out with him and Milo, then remembers that they usually end up at strip clubs, broke and barely remembering their own names. It's no place for her. "It's a small town, I'm not going anywhere."

Hayden presses closer, sniffling a little, but calmer than she was before. "I'll miss you."

"You too." And in saying the words he feels it full force, all that he is losing and all that he will miss out on. She holds on, little hands pawing at his shirt, and then the situation changes, shifts into something else. She's touching his face and pushing up, and he leans over so they can kiss. It's soft and playful at first, just two co-workers caught in a moment and an emotion. Then it deepens, she opens her mouth and he takes a taste, slipping his tongue between her lips and groaning at the contact.

He's thought about this before. Of course he has.

It's no longer a thought when he's pushing her against his car and spreading her legs. She's dripping wet and ready for him, and the knowledge of it makes him throbbing hard in an instant. "No panties, Hayden?" he manages to croak as he's fingering her, and she adjusts so she's sitting on the hood.

"I had ulterior motives." Her breath hitches, and then speeds up when he adds another finger.

"So the cupcakes weren't the only things you had planned?" Her hands rub at him through his pants and that's not nearly enough. "Nice little going away fuck. I like it. It says something even a Hallmark card can't." With his free hand he shoves hers away and manages to unzip his fly and free his cock.

The palms of her hands are cold on his sensitive skin, making him hiss and buck his hips. He shoves her back and pulls her forward at the same time so that her ass is right there on the edge. This probably would have happened before, except she was too young, or she was Milo's girl, or Adrian doesn't fuck people he works with. But she's none of those things now, and there's nothing stopping him from thrusting into her hard, using his hands for balance and kissing her again to stay sane.

Later they laugh at the bright colors the frosting smears made on the asphalt. "Well that wasn't supposed to happen." Hayden's giddy and relaxed against him; he still hasn't left the parking lot, not even sure he can.

"Yeah, sorry about that." He's apologetic and shy, but he can't stop touching her now and Milo keeps calling his cell, wondering where the hell he is. "Any regrets?"

She giggles and then hiccups, shaking her head. "Only that I didn't try this sooner."
