I'm casting my mind through the TV I watch or know is on. You and I don't always have the same taste in entertainment, so while I know there are things that might fit your criteria, I can't necessarily name them 'cause I don't watch them and don't know for sure. Plus, yeah, they usually are short-lived.

That said, two suggestions: Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse. BSG was a drama that happened to be in space with robots and the occasional epic space battle. They dealt with -- very well, often shockingly, and never easily -- almost any issue you could name. Abortion, rape, torture, what is the soul, human rights, democracy vs military dictatorship, on and on. If you haven't tried it, or even if you have but only a little, I highly suggest it.

Dollhouse is a new show and I love it. It's set modern-day but has some scifi-ish tech that wipes personalities and memories (storing them in a computer) and imprints new, complete personalities so that the "doll" can be anyone or anything. The thing I love most about it is that it makes you ( ... )

I hoped to get some suggestions from you! I've heard good things about BG, so I may have to check that out. I'm almost done with Boston Legal & will need something new to get into. And I remember seeing previews for Dollhouse, but I've never actually caught it on t.v. What station runs it? (If it's Fox, I won't be able to watch it - for some reason we have no Fox. No SYTYCD for me - woe!)

I remember you hating Brave New World back in highschool, but I didn't remember you reading it again. I definitely recommend a re-read, especially if it's been a few years. Funny the things we notice or understand as we get older.

Because of the area we live in we have lawn guys nearly every day ... very annoying.

One of my least favorite things to wake up to! I dislike the incessant whine of weed-whackers at any time of day, but early morning has to be the worst. Keep it down out there! LoL At least I only have to deal with it once or twice a week though. Every day would probably drive me a little bonkers.

This is why I have Hulu, Fancast, or MediaMonkey have playing constantly. At least the car alarm finally stopped going off. For three weeks there was a car around here that would go off for about 30 minutes, reset for 10 minutes, and then start going off again. Had I been able to find it I would have cut the battery cables.

I LOVE Brave New World! I'm not sure how many times I've read that one.

It's the one book I recommend to everyone I know, regardless of their reading tastes. So worth it. Great conversation starter, too.

If you like Brave New World, then I recommend reading 1984 by George Orwell. Similar theme with a different take.

I actually read half of 1984 several years ago, but for some reason didn't finish the book, and now I've lost my copy. It's definitely on my "To Read" list.

Farenheight 451 is also something that you'll want to read if it's not on your list already. =)

I've never read "Brave New World" but it's on my list.

I do like Law & Order and SVU... never really got into Criminal intent though.

And I think it should be illegal for *anybody* to do yardwork before 9 am!!! lol....

Definitely a must read! I recommend it strongly to everyone I know. Felt good to re-read it.

Yeah, I like the original L&O. I never really dug the characters on SVU. I do like the main guy on Criminal Intent, but I'm really rather tired of crime dramas. I still watch NCIS and L&O CI, but not on a regular basis. And neither of them really get to my brain the way Boston Legal does.

And definitely! We should start a petition for a constitutional amendment banning early morning yardwork. ;)

I'm going to have to give it a look-see. :-)

I really liked the SVU characters... It was the Criminal Intent characters I never clicked with. I also do like NCIS. :-)

I'll sign the petition!!!!
