I've taken a bit of a break from my procastrination, and was able to finish another piece for Poker Face, so here it is. For Villains or Heroes? this time, a tiny bit into the future but I wouldn't call it spoilery. It's canon-ish, don't bite me if I change a detail. A part of this may make it into the next chapter.
Prompt: Dialogue-only
Title: One a Tuesday
Words: 569
Universe: Villains or Heroes Strangetown, canonish
Warnings: none to think of
”Sal? Is that you?”
”Bim, darling! You are alive!”
”It's you! Thank goodness, Sal! I've tried to get a hold of you, but the phone's been mute. I've been so worried.”
”So have I. Where are you? What happened to you?”
"I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm at home. Or, in whatever's left of it anyway. The explosion shook the house pretty badly, but thank goodness it didn't collapse. I was inside as you told me, and it was very lucky that I was, just outside there's this big palm tree, it got somehow uprooted and fell partly on top of the roof. I could easily have been hit by it."
"Thank plumbbob, Bim. You are alive! I still cannot believe it. Are you safe?"
"Yeah, I think so. As much as anyone can be safe right now. The situation is a bit... crazy. But I've got a place to be, the building stayed together, and I can lock the doors for the night. If someone really wants in... Well, they'll get in. But I don't think there's anything here that would interest anyone. The water is what it is, I haven't been able to get a job as I had hoped for, and the food is sparse, but so far I'm managing."
"I cannot say that I am happy to hear that, but in these circumstances it may be the best that we can hope for. I..."
"Enough about me, Sal. How are you holding up? Have you got a place, where are you calling from?"
"Yes, yes I do. I was still at La Fiesta Tech when all this happened and only begun my travel here when I heard from Seth that something had gone wrong. He called me. The line was hopelessly bad and I could only hear few words, but clearly something was not right. I am not sure what exactly he was trying to tell me, other than that he was apparently aware of the explosion, and at present, I cannot find out. In any case, I was able to find an unoccupied plot of land and some equipment. I have built myself a shelter, and considering the circumstances I do think it is a rather good one."
"Where is it?"
"It is quite close to the Road to Nowhere, and a small distance away from where the Grunt family lived before. I am not sure what has happened to them, or the house, I am afraid."
"I know the place. I'm coming over."
"Bim darling! I know you would like to, and I would love that, but in the current situation I do not think..."
"Tonight, Sal. I'm coming over tonight."
"But..."
"No buts. I've nearly gone mad not knowing what happened to you, I'm not going to wait for it to 'be safe'. For Wright's sake, it might never actually be safe again, for all we know."
"There isn't anything I can say to change your mind, is there?"
"No. I don't care if I get attacked by a mob, a horde of zombies or a pack of angry radioactive bears. I'm coming to see you."
"When?"
"In the early evening, when it's not too dark. Right now I have to take use of the daylight and try to find some supplies. But I'll come."
"Please be careful, Bim. I love you."
"I love you too. And I will."
