I know what you mean - I too support the troops whilst not supporting the war......unfortunately the nature of an army's job is to do what it's told......

i hate those things too. the more and more i see them, the more and more i become infuriated. first off, the "god bless america" ribbons really piss me off. in short, what makes the u.s. so great to deserve blessing? we've killed and maimed and in the name of god. if god were to REALLY bless american, bush and his cronies would need to be taken out of position. i've been on the fence with the yellow ribbons. my distaste for certain factions of the military of pushed me away from support for a good lot of them. i was at my girlfriend's friend's place because her boyfriend was on leave. he whipped out the laptop and showed videos from the war (not ones that they've made). one of which showed chopper taking out farmers rying to defend themselves and as each farmer was blown to pieces, the guy home on leave and his friends would hoot, holler, and cheer. i got sick and we left. that and the whole mistreatment of prisoners. then there's the military officer that murdered a civilian for no reason ( ... )

I had a conversation with someone a few months back about those stupid magnets. You see them EVERYWHERE around the Naval Base. The only consolation I get from them is that I checked one out closely and it does state that it's made in the USA.. however, I don't know that that's true.

I HATE THEM. I must constantly resist the urge to yank them off of every car I walk by.

PS, two more things.

Those are probably the same people that never bothered to fly a flag prior to 9/11/01.

Also, don't forget the Marines. :)

I, for one, do not support the troops themselves. I suppose that it sounds harsh, but the men and women of the U.S. armed forces knew when they enlisted that if we were to enter into a conflict that they would be called on to perpetrate acts of violence ( ... )

If you can support your brother the man (but not his actions in the armed forces), why is it that you cannot support other men and women in our armed forces (but not their actions)? He knows what he is getting himself into, and he enlisted after the conflict began.

Also, it is innacurate to make a blanket statement about their orders being illegal. They may be immoral, but generally they are not illegal.

Instead of taking up a great deal of room on Kate's comments page, I have reposted the original comment, your reply, and my response in my personal journal. It just seems like a more appropriate forum.

Those ribbons are SO STUPID. It's merely YAHT (yet another herd thing). I had an idea a few days ago: I'd love to buy a couple hundred of those ribbons--all different colors--and plaster them ALL OVER MY CAR. Just to be asinine. I mean, hey, I'm sure it'd get some laughs. Does anyone on here know where one can purchase the magnetic ribbons in bulk?

heheheheee

That's an awesome idea. If you click on the stupid magnets link you can find another link to a page that does sell the silly ribbons in bulk. They are like 6 dollars for 100 or something stupid. ^_^
