Yeah, my biggest problem is that a character like Tej is pretty much in every book Bujold has written in the last dozen or so years. The child of a large family who love her but don't really get her or understand her and who thinks of her self as the oddball stupid one until she actually gets exposure outside the family and discovers that she is actually amazingly talented and gifted and stuff. KareenSparkTej.

Yes, but she did need to be a kindred spirit for Ivan...and I find it hard to begrudge the poor boy some love. He's been through enough.

Oh, I don't begrudge him the love. And it was nice to see Ivan's family actually caring that Tej was "good enough for our Ivan."

Yeah, that was nice. Not that I've ever doubted they cared about him, however much trouble they get him into. (And it was amusing that Lady Alys figured out he was in love before he did...but of course, she's had more experience.)

Oh, and it was one of those serendipitous moments when the song that's been running through my head all week matches up perfectly with what I'm reading - "I've Never Been In Love Before" from Guys and Dolls.

I've been waiting almost since the series began to see Ivan fall in love. Hard and thoroughly. It was very satisfying.

"The Vor Horsemen of the Apocalypse". *howl*
