Good Omens, bad slash

Sep 04, 2007 02:15

Y'know, I understand that of course there will be slash of Good Omens. I mean, you take an angel and a demon, make them unlikely friends and loyal allies (not to mention the two main protagonists of a book), give them a relationship called an Arrangement with a capital A upon which most of the plot hangs, and then place a lot of emphasis on the ( Read more... )

Ditto, ditto, DITTO!

Thank you for saying that. I mean it. UGHH. First off, Angels don't have naughty bits. And the way they turn them into over sexed looking Bishonen in fan art, Blech!

I was going to start a piece of GO fan art and was asking around for casting suggestions. Everyone kept wanting Johnny Depp for Crowley. I was all WTF. Did these people read the same book I did??

I ended up only using suggestions for slightly odd looking british actors. :) It worked out great.

As for those clips, hahaha you're right DAMN. I have a slight fanthing for Whiteguy/Blackguy friendships (Gunn/Wesley, Mickey/Danny, Gus/Sean) That one looks hilarious! :)

I didn't even mention the fanart, due it being mostly not worth mentioning. :-P

I dunno about having a fanthing for whiteguy/blackguy friendships, that seems like it can veer into problematic fetishizing territory, but I adore Van and Deaq as a screen pairing. Unlike with other such partnerships--Gus/Sean being one, though I hear it evolved past first season--there is no sidekick in their relationship, and they aren't split by "funny guy"/"useful guy" or "everyday guy"/"magic negro" or whatever. They come across to me as entirely and fully equal, inseparable from each other, and each incomplete without the other. I can't. for example, pick one of them as my favorite, because they are just such a wonderfully united entity. Love love love.

Yea Gus and Sean are like that. Wes and Gunn, Wes is the magic negro. Lol.

I don't know if you've seen Hustle but Mickey and Danny are more quarrelsome siblings. Impatient teacher, headstrong student.

I don't sexualize these parings. I just like them, hense fanish, not fetish. Heh. I only slash Rob and Phil from Boston Kickout.

It was a fun book! And it had an ending! I was much pleased.

The best A/C slash is actually gen with v. mild undercurrents. I was so horrified the first time I read A/C slash that actually gave them sex drives that I've essentially avoided it since. :(

Also Fastlane looks exciting.

Gen with mild undercurrents sounds like it would work quite well, yes. But yeah, sex drives and simpering? Not so much.

Fastlane was so, so awesome. Sadly it was also really expensive and got cancelled early, because not enough people seemed to get that it was meant to be enjoyed as a SUPER RIDICULOUS show. (I have a feeling the original writer thought of it as Seriously Awesome, but the other writers attached to it decided to camp it up for all it was worth, and made it amazing.) You can find eps of it for download or streaming video on http://stage6.divx.com/!

How are you doing? Did you have a good birthday?

I can't comment on the Good Omens thing, since I haven't read the book yet. But soon. :)

I actually went to the site, downloaded the player, and spent some time catching up with the show last night. ;p (However, would totally loved to get the episodes burned, because I don't think I can keep them on my harddrive...)

a) The slash is actually totally all in the dialogue, so that video doesn't scratch the surface.

b) From an objective perspective, the actual show is really quite bad, isn't it? ;p

Well, I intend to burn them, but you can just stream the video there, you know... it's like a higher quality youtube...

a) totally
b) duh? :-P But it's awesome-bad.
