A friend of mine LOVES The Worst Witch and actually owns it on DVD. I'm surprised she never pointed out the similarities between it and harry potter before...considering she's also a Potter head!

harry potter is certainly the sum of it's (obvious) influences, but having read the books of magic, i have to say that HP trounces upon it completely. the influences may be derivative, but the storytelling and fetching qualites are a lot more poignant.

then again, i haven't really checked out The Worst Witch properly, but i can say that the Books of Magic are just OK.

Ah, I haven't read them.

I also haven't read much past the 1st HP book--I thought the first one was a rather mediocre Roald Dahl/C.S.Lewis wannabe, and the second one bored me, and I stopped there. I take it on faith that the ensuing ones were better.
