Gauchos are the loophole at my work. We can't wear anything not "pants" but biking in 100 degree weather makes me not super keen to wear anything but underwear. Gauchos are breathable and loose and attractive :) I heart them.

Wearing clothing for practical reasons is entirely different to my mind than wearing them as a deliberate fashion statement. For practical reasons, one could wear a burlap sack and I'd applaud said person's resourcefulness.

(That said, wearing clothes as a deliberate fashion statement is also different than wearing them because something's "in" this seasosn and you wanna do what everyone else is doing.)

Wow. I have a friend who does both the leggings and the gauchos things... And she's very much on top of the fashion world and whatnot. I suspect this is one of those times when the fashion trends are just intolerable for a few months before going back to normal.
She is tall and skinny, though. But still.
