It sure would be nice if I were able to think of $100 as nothing much *sigh*

Even if $100 isn't a lot to her, you could easily have stolen it but didn't -- that alone deserves a thank you, IMHO.

Yeah, that's how I felt! It wasn't like I was expecting her to prostrate herself in gratitude or get passing pilots to join in a barbershop quartet thank you medley, but nothing.

Maybe the lady was in shock that she had left the money and you returned it, and by the time she mustered up a thank you it was too late, and to this moment she's kicking herself that she didn't say thank you? (Because she should be.)

Perhaps. That idea would probably be more plausible if she'd looked remotely shell-shocked. Instead, she just stuck her money back in her pocket and said, "yeah, that happens all the time to me." Like she just expected people to be chasing her down constantly to return her stuff. I dunno. I will try to believe your theory, but I think she was just rather self-entitled. And I don't like thinking such negative things about people. Blargh.
