I love San Francisco.  Seriously, it's one of my favorite cities in the world.  So damn cool.  I had a few days off so I decided to fly to San Fran and hang out for a couple days-- I've got an old friend who lives right downtown, so free flight, free futon to crash on-- my idea of a great holiday!  Because I love this city so much, I decided to ( Read more... )

Awesomesauce! I love hearing about cities from other people's perspectives, and SF's got a lot to discover about it. I'd actually never heard of Dottie's, but it'll definitely be on my list to visit, next time I get out there. And oh yes please, City Lights. Yes, please.

Great post!

Glad you liked! :D And Dottie's has amazing breakfast-- that's all they do. (open 0730-1500 except I think Tuesdays??) But make sure you are not crazily hungry when you go or you'll go even more crazy standing in line, but hungry enough so that you can fully enjoy the HUGE amount of yummy food they'll give you. Order from the specials board instead of the menu, and I'd recommend grabbing a cup of coffee on the way to sip on in line.

You know, I honestly don't. My friend lives downtown and when I visit her we tend to stick to the same few areas, because they're close, there's so much right there, and we have places we like to hang out there. When I overnight there for work, I stay in South San Francisco, which is less than hugely exciting. We'll hop the BART and my crews are usually really gung ho to hang out at Fisherman's Wharf. I have to admit, I'm a little over Alcatraz and cable cars, but I understand the allure for first-timers. There's a place at the Wharf that serves a kick-ass Irish coffee though, plus YUM-- sourdough! But there are still a lot of unexplored areas of San Fran for me. I'm definitely not a native or a pro and I do tend to keep to the same few spots once I've found places I like. Any recs?
