This is so sweet and perfect and wonderful somehow. Pulls so nicely at the heartstrings, and I love the picture you painted with words here. Excellent job!

Thank you! I am really happy with how this one turned out. I think it's probably some of my best writing this round.

Kat, this is fabulous! Thank you so much. I have such a long-hair kink, you can't imagine. And two of my very favorite characters -- well, this is a holiday gift to treasure. I love the way you weave together the comfortable feel of an established relationship with believable, realistic hints of the darkness that might be coming.

Lines I love:

With her close-cropped, no-nonsense, low-maintenance hair, few would guess that she loves playing with long, luxurious locks
Great contrast

marvelling at the way the creamy strands of grey glint as they trip through the antique bristles and catch the candlelight.
Lovely image

Wilhelmina wonders, not for the first time, whether one day every tress of this familiar head will be lightened by time. Whether, amidst all the danger and uncertainty in the world today, she'll get the opportunity to see it. Whether it will grow greyer without her. Whether its slow transition will be cut short before the process is finished. The power of these lines is quite striking -- so much meaning contained ( ... )

YAY! I'm so pleased you like it so much! I am really happy with how it turned out. Though it's by far the shortest piece I wrote this round, I also think it might be some of my best writing this round. And I always feel like good descriptive writing makes a piece seem longer than it really is. I love long hair too! And I have always enjoyed stories about hair brushing; it's such an innocent yet intimate thing to share. I loved the idea that popped into my head of Minerva practically purring when she let down her long hair and bam, story was born.

You picked out a few of my favorite bits! I was really happy with how those sections turned out. I don't often write the older characters, but I do wind up really loving the pieces I write when I do! Thanks for the prompt and for pushing me oh-so-slightly out of my comfort zone. I really am glad I wrote this-- I'm proud of it and I'm thrilled you like it! *beams*

This is so beautifully written! And what a thoughtful, tender look at an intimate moment. I love this line, for instance: marvelling at the way the creamy strands of grey glint as they trip through the antique bristles and catch the candlelight. Such a vidid description, with a lovely languid sensuality.

The thoughts drawing in the uncertainties of war and whether they'd get to see the greying process through to the natural end were also so gently and naturally woven into the whole. ♥

Thank you! I think it's probably my best writing this round (and the shortest one-- oddly, those often seem to go hand in hand during Drabbly Bit season!) and I'm quite pleased with it. That is definitely one of my favorite lines, so I'm glad it resonated with you, too. And also that you noticed all the little hints and themes that I tried to tie in. ♥

Oh this is really lovely. I love how you really get a sense of their relationship through this ritual of theirs and a glimpse of each woman, a peek behind closed doors so to speak. It's really wonderfully done!

Such a wonderful feel-good piece....., the lines about Wilhelmina wondering about the future keep it from being too sweet.... bravo!

Thank you so much! I'm glad you appreciated the balance there between the sweetness of the moment and the bleakness of the time period.
