Hi- stumbled in via friendsfriends, since I was looking for someone as frustrated as I was with Elizabeth's treatment. I'm actually a Will/Elizabeth shipper, but this ending does neither character justice, nor does it do justice to their relationship. I cannot believe that the one thread that was consistent throughout this movie, and the trilogy- Elizabeth's desire for independence...personally, physically, sexually- was blown to hell in after the credits scene. I can't believe that Elizabeth would ever accept being left, that she would ever agree to just...what, wait? for 10 years, or that Will would ever want that for her. Not to mention that it makes no sense to imply that she can't handle a journey she's already been on. I didn't need Elizabeth and Will together- the beauty of this fandom is how many ships are legitimate and intriguing possibilities- but I did need Elizabeth, our protagonist, to get the ending she has earned. Sorry to spew all over your journal, but it's unbelievably gratifying to find someone who sees fault with ( ... )

Change "Will" to "Jack" in that sentence and you have my thoughts exactly. :\ Shipping is a fun diversion and of course I was disappointed not to get more Sparrabeth screentime, but I was far, far more disappointed with the way all three main characters got shafted. And you're right, it's OOC for Will to make her wait around like that, too.

Oh, that blows. We've been avoiding seeing it -- and Spider-Man 3 -- because of some bad buzz, and it seems that in this case it's well deserved. We don't have a good track record on third movies; the second Matrix was distasteful enough we outright skipped Matrix Revolutions in the theatre. And haven't even rented it yet. Gah.

So much potential for awesomeness there, and...yeah. Gak.

Haven't seen the movie and don't plan to, so I didn't mind reading the spoilers, especially since it sounds like the movie is a bloated mess.

But on the being alone for 10 years thing? With all the mythology they're trying to cram in, could this not be a setup for some kind of Odysseus/Penelope kind of knod? In that case, Elizabeth may not be too out of character...

Yeah, I thought about the Odysseus connection, but rumor has it that Keira and Orlando don't want to do a fourth move so they had to write them out. I don't know...if this is the point the series has gotten to, I don't want a fourth film. :\

No kidding. And I have no idea why I added a "k" to "nod". :-p~~~~~

Saw the flick tonight and I pretty much agree with all you said. Although the "wedding in the middle of the fight" was cool, it still felt odd... the two characters needed a reconciliation first, not a wedding as a reconciliation, and that last bit with Elizabeth going ashore... uh, no. I figured when Liz and Jack escaped the Dutchman Will was lost to her, so for him not to be... just didn't work considering how much buildup Elizabeth had as a headstrong and otherwise awesome female character.

Calypso & Davy was cool. Keith Richards was cool. I'm using that "politics" line for an icon, and Barbossa was cool, right until he stole Jack's ship. I loved how he and Jack fought like cat and dog though. Jack actually wasn't as impressive this movie, but mostly because, as you mentioned, they didn't leave his imaginary friends behind.

All in all... great movie, great ending to the trilogy.. but the writers who came up with the very ending to undo all that had made it so good ought to walk the plank.
