The blue one (he's actually more purple IRL but it's hard to photograph such a little thing) is Oliver, my bedroom betta. I got him about a month ago, after Prince died.
In the wild male bettas make a bubble nest to attract females. They blow a bunch of fishie-spit bubbles at the water's surface. If an obliging female comes along and lays eggs for him, he'll scoop them up with his mouth and stick them in amongst the bubbles. He'll guard the nest until the babies hatch. So basically if your pet betta makes bubbles for you it means he's healthy, happy and feeling secure in his domain. ^_^
As for my grand total of fishies right now, it's six. The three goldfish whose photos are in the post above, Oliver the bubble-making betta, and two female bettas (Jazzy on my computer desk and Pansy on the kitchen counter).
