That is EXACTLY how I feel about slash!! I'm glad I'm not the only one! I'm pretty big on canon too, but that's not to say I don't have at least one Mary Sue up my sleeve. >_>

I think we're basically saying the same thing here, actually.

The characters aren't canonically gay OR straight, they just are.

Until the author says one way or another, yep.

Heck no. Harry/Draco is cold betrayal of canon, Remus/Sirius annoys me because everyone who ships it tries to pass it off as canon and it's not, Snape/Harry is sick. BUT Draco/Hermione is also cold betrayal of canon, Ron/Luna puzzles me greatly and Filch/McGonagall is gross.

LOL, yeah, exactly. All ships are not created equal. And I guess that was my point. It's not the slashiness so much as it is the spitting in the face of canon. I started out addressing slash because that's what the poll was about, but I got off on a tangent about badfic in general, I guess. ;)
