Cliff is a bit of a camwhore. I am decidedly not one. (As you can read, I only took ONE picture on my camera the whole weekend!) And it WAS cold. T_T Not really much colder than Auburn is this week, but the difference is that I'm not outside most of the time in AU. lol
Haha, I don't think they realized I was the person who'd written it, or else they probably would have toned down the bitch factor.
I wonder! I never did go back to check on her later...
It was!! When we went to Mood Fabrics (unsuccessfully, since they close at 4), there were a few trendy-looking New Yorkers leaving the place who looked like Project Runway contestants or FIT students. All I could think about was how you would fit in so well at that school, except you would come bearing LA-inspired style rather than New York. X3
From any info I can find on the subject, there is just a lot that can go wrong when dyeing a finished garment... especially something like a suit. While reshaping it is kind of an issue, there is the worse risk that you could shrink it or felt it. If it's not too far off color-wise, I'd say just use what you have, and nail the other parts of the costume. I mean, as long as the Phoenix hair is there, I'd imagine just having a suit that can be called "blue" is good enough. Maybe take it as an excuse to do extra props or something? I mean, really, I have my doubts that a suit color quite as... let's say, "flamboyant"... as Phoenix's actually exists in nature. Going with something slightly off is just the trade-off for saving yourself the headache of making a suit from scratch.
That's the kind of horrific stuff I read about when I tried googling it, too. :( The problem with leaving the suit as-is is that not only is it a light to medium shade of blue, it also has a few light red stripes throughout that I don't feel are subtle enough to ignore. :(
And Phoenix suits DO exist, they just tend to be cut in zoot suit style and generally come from stores with names like "Big Pimpin'." XDDDD I just feel like if we're going to buy an inaccurate medium-blue suit for $13, then we gotta go the extra mile and try and make it the right color! How did my steamer-dye idea sound to you? Too crazy?
Assuming the steamer thing works (and doesn't totally ruin your steamer forever) I think you'd probably have problems getting a consistent color, and may risk dye rubbing off on everything else that touches the suit.
Can you post photos? I'm thinking the stripes might actually look kinda nice (especially if they coordinate with the tie) and add some more depth to a really cartoony costume. There's also a decent chance they won't show up in most pictures.
In short, I don't think you can transform this suit into a perfect Phoenix suit, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it as a placeholder until you find something better. :D (I want more Phoenix cosplay.)
