Make-up Tutorial from before Dragon*con!

Oct 15, 2009 00:34

So, remember when I said I had made a make-up tutorial when I did my Dr. Girlfriend make-up test, and that I would post it "soon"? So much for soon, huh? Anyway, I change my favorite make-up techniques so frequently that I think I need to post this NOW, before it gets so outdated I'm mocking myself for being so terrible. lol

Hey, I was just recently telling MY Cliff (as I applied some concealer on him to cover his flared-up rosacea before the wedding) that I totally think it's unfair that there's a social stigma against men wearing make-up. If women can use it to go from 3s to 7s, why can't men? Or from a more feminist standpoint, if it's the social norm for women to be FORCED to wear it, why aren't men held to the same standard of unnatural beauty?? I think make-up makes Cliff look pretty as hell, but American modern culture just cannot deal. Ironically, in the 17th century in Europe, men actually wore MORE make-up than women, particularly in France, where...

...I could write novels about my thoughts on this. I should stop. XD

I think by the standards of "pretty," yes, most women naturally have softer features. However, make-up "enhances" natural beauty more than it makes beauty appear where it wasn't before. I think drag queens are a good example of how 9/10 times, a dude in make-up will still look like a dude in an outrageous amount of make-up, with the occasional exception of a dude who just looks gorgeous with make-up on in drag. Likewise, some girls look absolutely fantastically beautiful without a lick of make-up on, like my friend inviere who fucking radiates beauty. So make-up can only do so much, but done right, it can still do a lot. If you'd ever like to be a guinea pig for my "MAKE-UP FOR MEN" techniques, feel FREE to VOLUNTEER and WE SHALL FIND OUT~! ;D

I would be interested in knowing what brushes you use and where to get them. Now that I've got my giant Sephora palette of DOOM, I notice that everyone says the brushes that come with it are shite. Good makeup deserves good brushes, so I ought to jump on it, yeah?

Unfortunately, the brush set I have was a gift that has since been discontinued, but I can provide some GREAT, inexpensive, high-quality replacements instead. It's really the type that matters, not the brand. And yes, you're only as good as your make-up brushes! The difference between using a good shadow brush and an applicator with a foam top is ridic, as well as the difference between a blush brush and the little tiny flat piece of crap that comes with most drugstore brands.
