American Coverage was mostly on Philly and they'd jump to commercial in the middle of a performance. It was awful. Then again, it was VH1 and MTV, so it was to be expected.
XM dedicated 9 channels to it though, I spent most of the time on London's feed and Goddamn was it good. Pink Floyd just obliterated everyone.
Well damn... they only covered it on VH1 and MTV there??? They didn't even cover it on those here. They just played old Live Aid stuff and played videos from the people in Live 8.
The BBC dedicated alllll day to it, commercial free. And they even had it on the radio if you didn't want to watch, just if you wanted to hear the music.
Yeah, they covered it on Both Channels, poorly. Both channels had the exact same feed, and they would cut out in the middle of a song to go to "Sway" and "DJ I'm an ass" and talk about nothing for 10 minutes, then they'd cut back to the Killers or Maroon 5 and go to commercial halfway through their set. Way to make the musicians the focus, you dicks.
XM played all 8 cities in its entirety simultaneously across 9 channels. I got a recording of Pink Floyd's set that I'll send you when you come back home :)
American coverage blew. They cut from performance to performance, had commercials, and let their shitty announcers babble over the Who. (fingers twitch in desire to strangle) But they left Pink Floyd pretty much untouched, except for at the end where they cut off a bit of the Comfortably Numb solo for a commercial. Pink Floyd was amazing. The crowd's response when they hit the first guitar for Wish You Were Here... so many cameras going off all at once it looked like everyone in the audience had a gun, and they were firing at the stage all at once... reflected off the cymbals... wow. Mind-bending.
It really was damned amazing, wasn't it? I think here they either intentionally whited out the screen for the beginning of Wish You Were Here, but I still saw all of that. If that doesn't make them want to reunite, even if just for a little while, I have no clue what will.
Oy... I think they did just a tiny bit... if I remember what one of the guys said correctly.
But damn...... they were soooooooooooo so so good. And you could tell they loved being back up there. I don't know if it was being back in touch qith their own music again or just the emotion of being back together, but I saw them all physically showing emotion (you know, facial expressions and what not).
They were amazing. Amazing as in I teared up at them. I rarely do that.

There were some people from the apartments who went... I sat and leaned out my window watching everyone come back from it down Piccadilly.
