Yeah, I can work with SHIELD keeping a low profile right now. If we're figuring IM3 is a few months after Avengers (which sure looked like it was taking place in the summer, and this is Christmas, and Tony's had enough time to spin himself into a circle, but not enough for someone to kick him in the head), then I'm good with figuring the WSC is, a) not willing to get involved in something where it looks like the U.S. is the specific target, and b) still mightily pissed that Thor made off with tesseract and Loki. The Avengers basically ends on Fury telling them to suck it; SHIELD can't be their favorite right now ( ... )

But there's not room in the movie for us to see -- even if it might fit in the compressed timeline after the house drops into the ocean -- any "oh for fuck's sake" action SHIELD might take when Tony goes missing.

Hee. Alternate post-credits scene: Fury bashing his head against a wall because it feels so good when he stops.

Presumable CA2 will at least give some hints as to SHIELD's status and who they work for.
